Graduate Student Workshops & Resources

Library Winter 2025 Campus Graduate Student Workshops

EndNote

The full schedule of EndNote workshops is available at https://library.ulethbridge.ca/EndNote/help

Will you be working on a thesis or writing up a lot of research papers? Is it challenging to keep your research citation data and pdfs organized and easily accessible? If you’re not already using a citation manager, try out EndNote, a citation management tool that is free to download for all current U of L researchers.

To find out how EndNote can help make your writing and citing processes more efficient, sign up for live online workshops or complete the self-paced tutorials for U of L users. Register or learn more about available workshop options here.

NVivo

The Fall NVivo workshop dates (for Windows users) are available at: https://library.ulethbridge.ca/NVivo/help

In your next research project, will you need to analyze a fair amount of qualitative data (e.g., interviews, focus groups, open-ended survey questions)? If so, in this hands-on, two-part workshop for Windows users, you will learn how to use NVivo, an application designed to help organize, analyze, and create meaning from unstructured data. Register or find out more about NVivo here

IMPACT Teaching & Learning Workshop

Once again, the Teaching Centre will offer the IMPACT Teaching and Learning workshop designed for all graduate student teaching assistants (GTAs) and postdocs with teaching duties or related interests. The workshop will be facilitated virtually from January 20th to February 3rd, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. To sign up, please visit https://myexperience.uleth.ca

IMPACT was developed to equip current and future educators with essential skills for creating effective classes, developing comprehensive syllabi, organising strategic lesson plans, and working on fundamental classroom management techniques in higher education.

During the workshop, participants will engage in hands-on activities using the LMS Moodle, along with AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT-4 and Grammarly. These tools will help participants explore potential opportunities and stimulate discussions about the implications of integrating technology into teaching and assessment strategies. The primary goal is to provide participants with practical and applicable information for their future courses while they develop their teaching philosophy.

 i4Geo 2025 Workshop Series

The i4Geo Geospatial Science & Technology Series offers a dynamic, hands-on workshop experience designed to equip participants with advanced skills and practical knowledge across a wide range of geospatial analyses and applications. While all modules can be attended in a ‘watch and learn’ format, select sessions also allow participants to follow along on their own laptops, provided the necessary software and files are preloaded. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your geospatial expertise!

The first workshop of 2025, titled "Using R in Geospatial Analysis," will take place on January 17th. Seats are limited, so be sure to register.

Collective Agreement Ratification Sessions

The ULGA has called a General Membership Meeting to ratify the new Collective Agreement after negotiating over the past few months.

This process has been facilitated with the assistance of PSAC, who have been involved throughout the negotiation process.

Additionally, our Chief Negotiator will attend all sessions to address any questions or concerns you may have.

This event will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, with four one-hour sessions scheduled at:

  • 10:00 AM

  • 12:00 PM

  • 2:00 PM

  • 4:00 PM

The sessions will be held in Room E690, University Hall, a large, tiered room with a capacity of 140 attendees per session.

We encourage all members to attend the general meeting, ask any questions, and make their voices heard. Voting will take place immediately after each information session, giving members the opportunity to make an informed decision. If you are unable to attend a specific session, you can participate in a subsequent one, where voting will also be conducted.

To accommodate everyone's needs and given the importance of this event, we have scheduled four one-hour slots to ensure maximum participation.

If ratified, this new Collective Agreement will remain in effect until 2028. It represents the legacy we will leave for future generations of graduate employees.

We urge you to approach this decision with care and use your best judgment as you consider its long-term impact.

Questions can be directed to the ULGA Chief Steward and Outreach: Davide Pafumi at gsa.labour@uleth.ca
